Fujian Normal University is a time-honored comprehensive university located in Fuzhou, the capital of China’s coastal Fujian Province. We are currently seeking qualified native English speakers for full-time oral English teaching roles on a rolling basis.

Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher; a TESOL certification is preferred
Possess 1 to 2 years of formal teaching experience
16 teaching hours per week
Monthly Salary: 8,000 RMB and above, paid annually for 12 months
Annual Flight Allowance: 6,000–9,000 RMB. Reimbursement requires a signed electronic ticket, original paper ticket (if applicable), and boarding passes.
Contract-End Bonus: 4,000 RMB, granted upon successful completion of the employment contract
On-Campus Accommodation: Fully furnished private apartment with free broadband internet access
Complimentary Chinese Courses: Weekday morning Chinese language classes offered by the International College of Chinese Studies. This perk saves 14,000 RMB in tuition fees plus a 40 USD application fee, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Minimum Term: One full year (e.g., February 24, 2019 – February 23, 2020)

1. How are teaching hours scheduled?
Most classes take place on weekdays. A small number of interdisciplinary elective courses are scheduled on Wednesday and Friday evenings.
2. Can I reserve weekday mornings for Chinese language courses?
Yes. If you submit a formal written request to the Contact person in advance to reserve mornings for Chinese studies, you will only be assigned afternoon and evening teaching sessions.
3. Is the accommodation fully private?
Yes, all residential apartments are private and independent.
4. Are laundry facilities provided?
Yes, washing machines are available for faculty use.
5. What type of internet connection is available?
Free high-speed broadband internet is provided in all faculty apartments.
6. Am I responsible for utility fees?
Each faculty member is entitled to a monthly utility quota (150 kWh of electricity and 10 tons of water. Any excess consumption fees will be deducted from the following month’s salary.
7. Do international faculty enjoy national holidays including the Spring Festival?
Yes. International teachers receive a 3-week Spring Festival break and all official Chinese national holidays, consistent with local university faculty benefits.
8. Are classrooms equipped with modern teaching facilities?
Yes, all classrooms are fully equipped with audio-visual devices to support PPT presentations and multimedia teaching.
9. What are the differences between the two campuses?
The Cangshan (old) campus is located in downtown Fuzhou, while the Qishan (new) campus is approximately 15 kilometers away. International teachers may reside on either campus. Since the College of Foreign Languages is now based at the Cangshan campus, most foreign faculty are housed nearby. For those residing on the Qishan campus, classrooms are a 15-minute walk away. A campus shuttle bus connects the two campuses (20-minute ride, 3 RMB fare). Public city buses are also accessible with a flat 1 RMB fare for urban travel, and cycling is another convenient option.
10. What is the international community like on campus?
The university hosts around 10 full-time international teachers, two-thirds of whom are native English speakers, with the rest specializing in Japanese and other languages. Additionally, there are approximately 400 international students, the majority of whom study Chinese at the International College of Chinese Studies.
11. What student groups will I teach?
You will teach undergraduate English majors and non-English majors. You may also undertake postgraduate teaching tasks or be invited as a guest speaker for graduate courses.
12. What Chinese learning opportunities are available for foreign teachers?
With a recommendation from the College of Foreign Languages, you can enroll in Chinese language programs at the International College of Chinese Studies. The programs offer 8 proficiency levels covering HSK 3 to HSK 11, with all courses held on weekday mornings.
